Accessible Holiday Cottages at Hawthorn Farm

Are you looking for an accessible holiday cottage in Kent? We understand that all our guests have individual needs, and we're committed to providing comfortable, homely and accessible accommodation at Hawthorn Farm. Whether you simply need flat access and single storey accommodation with a walk-in shower, or whether you need wheelchair accessibility, we'll do our best to make your stay at Hawthorn Farm happy one!

All three cottages in the terrace at Hawthorn Farm (Cherry Tree, Rowan and Primrose) are single storey with level flat access from your car, so are suitable for our guests who have limited mobility, or who would find it difficult walking upstairs.

Foxglove Cottage (the detached cottage) has one small step at the threshold, and another shallow, but wide step into the lounge/dining area. This cottage is enjoyed by many of our guests with limited mobility, as it is also all on one level. It has a shower room with large walk-in shower and raised toilet - both with grab bars; and has parking right outside the front door.

Pear Tree Cottage (the annexe to the farm house) is also single storey, with access via a wide ramp at the front, but there's a couple of shallow steps down to the private garden at the back. This cottage has a large walk-in shower with grab bar, and a raised sink - although the toilet is not raised.

Wheelchair Accessible Accommodation

Of the three cottages in the terrace, Primrose Cottage is particularly well suited for wheelchair users who are accompanied by a companion or a helper - as it is the most spacious, with a large open plan living/dining/kitchen area, two large bedrooms and a roll-in wet room. The kitchen in Primrose Cottage is fully equipped with an oven, microwave, Lavazza coffee machine, dishwasher and fridge/freezer.

As soon as we arrived, we could tell that Primrose Cottage has been thoughtfully designed with wheelchair users in mind. All the rooms are wonderfully spacious, and we really appreciated the extra large wet room. Steve and Tina were extremely accommodating of our needs. Nothing was too much trouble! If you have any special needs, such as reduced mobility, please let us know at the time of booking so we can advise you on the suitability of our cottages - and where possible, to make arrangements for any special equipment/facilities you may need prior to your stay. The cottage has been sympathetically adapted for wheelchair users, providing a comfy home-from-home holiday cottage that has:

Spacious wet room with plenty of room to manoeuvre
Open shower area with thermostatic shower, fixed rainfall showerhead, plus separate low level handset
Low level bathroom caddy on wheels for storing toiletries
Lever taps on the basin, and enough space underneath for a wheelchair
"Comfort Height" raised toilet with three grab rails
A wide (4 foot/120cm) electric adjustable bed in the second bedroom
Choice of a memory foam or a dynamic airflow mattress for the 4' electric bed (there's a charge of £25 per stay for the airflow mattress - please see below for more info)
Your choice of two singles, or a 6' superking-size bed in the main bedroom
Two further single beds in the second bedroom - ideal for one or two carers
Rise and recline motorised chair on request (there's a charge of £50 per stay for this - please see below for more info)

We're also dog friendly

One of the other great advantages of staying at Hawthorn Farm, is that you are welcome to bring your companion or guide dog with you. We simply charge £25 per stay for up to two pets.

You are welcome to use any of the following (free of charge) - just let us know when you make your booking which of these you would like us to provide:

Shower chair on wheels or static shower stool
Walking aids
Threshold ramp (if needed for the back door)

Hoists, electric wheelchairs and mobility scooters can be hired in advance and delivered to your cottage for your arrival. We'll happily supply contact numbers for you'd like to enquire.

Rise and Recline Chair - £50 per stay

For our guests who experience discomfort or pain when getting in or out of armchairs, or who might need a little extra help mobility-wise, we can arrange hire of a rise and recline chair. If you're not familiar with one of these chairs, the electric mechanism allows for easier movement and gently elevates you out of the chair and onto your feet. It comes with simple to use controls, so you can adjust your sitting position to get it just right!

Pressure Relief Air Mattress - £25 per stay

The Supreme Extra Pressure Relied Alternating Air Mattress System is a replacement mattress, used to provide comfort to those suffering with pressure ulcers. It is available to hire if you are booking Primrose Cottage. The mattress is a comfortable 4 foot (122cm) wide and fits on the electric adjustable bed in the second bedroom (the one with three beds). Incorporating the current Supreme Overlay system, the Supreme Extra has an extra foam surround and base, which transforms the mattress from an Overlay to a Replacement. The surrounding foam is visco topped providing extra comfort.
