What do we need to pack?

If you've not been on a self-catering holiday before, you may be wondering what to pack, as it's a bit different to staying in a hotel or a B&B. The (fun) challenge is to find a balance between having to purchase essentials locally that you could have brought from home, and packing so much stuff that you have to dig yourselves out of the car when you get there!

Owing to the extraordinary circumstances and challenges of the pandemic in 2020/21, we've had to make a few changes to the way we do things, but we still aim to provide a holiday home from home as far as possible. Although the cottages at Hawthorn Farm are well equipped, you will probably have some things that you can't live without - your own pillow, a special kitchen tool that you want to bring  - but rest assured - you could probably just come with a bag of toiletries, a towel and a change of clothes, and you'll be perfectly fine!

All the cottages at Hawthorn Farm have the following, subject to current covid restrictions:

•  Fully equipped kitchen (electric oven/hob, microwave oven, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, coffee machine, crockery, cutlery, pans etc.)
•  Mattress and pillow protectors
•  Egyptian Cotton bed linen (fresh linen provided after 7 days if requested)
•  Bathing/hand towels
•  Bath mat

Welcome pack

To get you started, we'll make sure there's a small supply of the following (you'll probably need to bring/buy more if you're staying for longer than 4 days):

•  Hand gel
•  One toilet roll
•  Dishwasher tablets/rinse aid/dishwasher salt
•  Surface cleaner, toilet cleaner, air freshener
•  Bin liner/bio-degradable bag for food waste
•  Hand wash
•  An "ecoegg" (alternative to washing machine detergent) in the laundry room
•  Pet treats, and pet essentials to borrow if you're bringing your feathered or furry friends to Foxglove or Primrose Cottages!

Things you'll need to bring with you

•  Tea towels
•  Oven gloves
•  Washing up gloves
•  Bedding and towels, if you prefer not to use ours

You'll be most welcome to place an online order with one of the supermarkets for delivery on the day of your arrival. In order to minimise contact, please try to arrange the delivery for at least one hour after you aim to arrive, so you'll be sure to be here when it arrives.

The nearest grocery shop is in Ash, just 1.5 miles from Hawthorn Farm, and there are lots of farm shops and supermarkets within a short drive, however, you might prefer to bring the following from home:

•  Kitchen roll/cling film
•  Washing-up liquid/sponge
•  Extra toilet rolls
•  Your favourite tea/coffee, sugar, milk
•  Coffee pods for the coffee machine (Nespresso in Pear Tree, Lavazza in all the other cottages)

•  Spare bedding
•  Travel games for the car journey and a few favourite toys, books and DVDs for when you arrive
