Golfing holidays at Hawthorn Farm

Kent has a long-standing golfing history, and it's easy to see why this part of Kent in particular attracts both amateur and professional golfers from all around the world.

One of golf’s most prestigious tournaments, The Open Championship, has been hosted in Sandwich 17 times, we we're absolutely delighted to hear that the Open will be returning to Royal St George's in 2020. The first time the Open was played outside of Scotland was in 1894 at Royal St George’s, and it has returned to club 13 times. Keen followers of golf will undoubtedly remember Northern Ireland's Darren Clarke beat the Americans Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson to the title of Champion Golfer of the Year 2011. Royal Cinque Ports has also staged the Open (in 1909 and 1920), and nearby Prince’s has also hosted it in 1932.

"The Open is a true celebration of sport and the global spotlight will fall once again on Sandwich." Martin Slumbers, Chief Executive of The R&A
